The benefits of meditation have been repeatedly proven: this practice helps to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, get rid of anxiety, and learn to understand ourselves better. Meditation comprehensively contributes to our personal and spiritual growth. It is one of the best ways to discover your true self.

But if you’ve tried meditating on your own or with a meditation app, you’ve probably realized that it can be very, very difficult to master this practice. It is often very difficult to focus (even if you are using apps), especially when there are so many stimuli and urgent things to do.

When the sink is full of unwashed dishes and the mailbox is full of unanswered letters, meditation can seem like an unacceptable luxury. And even if we do begin to meditate, we are hindered by inner restlessness and nervous system overexcitement.

This is why beginners should sign up for real rather than virtual group meditation classes and try to attend them regularly, without skipping them. Live group classes offer certain advantages that we will lose if we practice alone (even with a video instructor). Here are some of them.

1.YOU’RE REALLY GOING TO HAVE TO MEDITATE

You probably know what it’s like: you promise yourself that you’re going to meditate, and you really want to, but you have a lot of unfinished business. You’re distracted. You’re constantly getting new emails and messages. When you start meditating, after a couple of minutes you remember that you forgot to take the laundry out of the washing machine.

When you attend a group class, you are making a commitment and will definitely be practicing meditation and not something else.

2.YOU WILL DIVERSIFY THE USUAL RHYTHM OF LIFE

Since group meditation training is not in your home, but in a new, unfamiliar, calm and neutral environment, it will be easier for you to detach from habitual ways of thinking and behavior that may interfere with achieving inner peace.

3.YOU’LL LEARN A LOT.

Meditation is both simple and complex. You will encounter many obstacles along the way, many of which are the work of your mind. It is much easier to overcome them with an experienced mentor who will give you helpful advice, help you get back on track if you get distracted, and teach you proven techniques to make your practice more productive. In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and get answers at any time.

4.YOU WILL BE ENERGIZED BY THE ENERGY OF THE GROUP

Think of any mass event where there was a joyful atmosphere – a wedding or a symphony orchestra concert. The feeling of joy is contagious. All of you – participants in a group training session – have come together to learn to meditate or simply to try to calm the mind and stop the chaotic flow of thoughts. There is a special atmosphere in the group that helps you overcome difficulties and achieve a state of mindfulness. A sense of community with like-minded people can be very supportive during difficult times in your life.
