Tai chi is one of the varieties of Chinese Wushu and it helps to improve many health parameters. If you’ve been wanting to take up Tai Chi for a long time, but have been hesitant to do so, here are some arguments that will convince you to do it as soon as possible.
The essence of tai chi is working with chi energy. “Tai chi originated in the thirteenth century and is a specific set of slow and flowing movements,” explains Betty Chewning, a physiologist, tai chi researcher, and professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. – Tai chi improves body awareness, balance, coordination, strength and flexibility.
Tai chi is very different from the practice of yoga. Yes, they both work with the body and mind, but they stem from different philosophies (Chinese and Indian respectively).
Some people find tai chi classes boring and too easy: the practice implies very smooth movements. But the simplicity of tai chi is deceptive: if you concentrate on the technique of exercises, control the position of the body, breathing, balance and activate the right muscles, you can work the main areas of the body quite well. And also – to get very unexpected bonuses for health. Let’s tell you more about them.
Tai chi helps you lose weight
Take a closer look at these classes if you don’t like intense workouts. Regular practice helps you lose weight, according to scientists from Hong Kong.
An experiment involving 550 people over 50 years old proved: those who practiced tai-chi three times a week for four months in a row lost a significant amount of weight. They also reduced their waist size and the amount of high-density lipoproteins.
However, they compared them with those who did not train in principle, but the essence is the same: tai-chi classes really help to reduce the amount of fat in the body.

Tai Chi Exercise Reduces Pain
In a small study published in the journal Holistic Nutrition,10 participants took part in a 12-week course of tai chi. Using questionnaires, the researchers “measured” their pain intensity, cognitive ability, emotional well-being and physical function.
The study found that regular tai chi exercise reduced musculoskeletal pain and reduced PTSD.
Moreover, they cope with this task much better than classical aerobic exercises, which was confirmed by another larger study (the experiment involved 226 adults with fibromyalgia).
Tai chi improves heart function
How can this be possible if the intensity of tai chi classes is low? However, a recent study published in Heart & Lung found that adults with hypertension who practiced tai chi for six months had significantly lower blood pressure and BMI than those who received conventional hypertension care. Think about this if you have cardiovascular malfunctions.
Tai chi improves mood and fights stress
Like other body&mind disciplines, tai chi is good for our mental health. Research backs this up. One recent meta-analysis looked at 15 studies that used tai chi to improve psychological health. They all say one thing: when practiced regularly, tai chi improves quality of life, mental and physical health. It also reduces the risk of depression and psychological disorders among participants.
Thus, tai chi can be another tool for people suffering from depression, anxiety and stress – along with psychotherapy and taking medication.
Tai chi boosts immunity
Among all the “perks” of practicing this practice, studies have also found improved immune function. A review of studies published in the American Journal of Health Promotion noted improvements in the number of antibodies after vaccination, an increase in T-cells in response to vaccination, and the number of blood markers associated with immunity. No improvement in these parameters was seen in those who had never practiced tai chi.
To summarize: Tai Chi exercises have almost no restrictions and improve many health indicators. We suggest you try this Chinese gymnastics in classes with Vasily Tsomko.
Class concept:
Much has already been said about Qigong and Tai-Chi. The main thing that the trainer wants to convey to his students is the accessibility and simplicity of these unique oriental directions, not separating them, but combining them into a system of personal development through the study of one’s energy, body capabilities, flexibility of thinking, spiritual enrichment, health improvement and opening of
additional potential.
“If you want to improve the world around you – start with yourself and you will automatically begin to influence your environment and the situations around you. The better you know yourself, the better you can develop, the better you can give to the world and receive, renewing your energy and distributing on the level of feeling and understanding what is best
for you”.
This is only a brief description of the system along with multiple directions for developing oneself and one’s inner resources, which require a steady energizing in today’s world.
